Mentor Code of Conduct

Academic Integrity & Professional Standards Framework

1. Purpose

This Mentor Code of Conduct establishes the ethical, professional, and governance standards expected of all mentors associated with MentorsGate.

All approved mentors agree to comply with this Code as a condition of continued association with the platform.

This document aligns with:

  • Academic integrity principles
  • Institutional governance standards
  • Research ethics norms
  • IMPARC consortium frameworks
  • IMT (Ignited Minds Today) editorial independence

2. Professional Integrity

Mentors shall:

  • Provide honest, accurate, and evidence-based academic guidance
  • Represent qualifications and experience truthfully
  • Accept assignments only within their area of expertise
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions

Misrepresentation of credentials or expertise is strictly prohibited.

3. Academic Integrity & Ethical Boundaries

Mentors must adhere to globally recognized academic integrity standards.

Mentors shall not:

  • Engage in plagiarism or content misappropriation
  • Fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data
  • Promote unethical authorship practices
  • Participate in peer-review manipulation
  • Offer guaranteed journal acceptance or editorial influence

MentorsGate facilitates advisory support. Final research decisions and submissions remain the responsibility of the mentee.

4. Scope of Engagement

Mentors are expected to:

  • Operate strictly within the agreed scope of work
  • Define deliverables and timelines clearly
  • Avoid unauthorized expansion of services
  • Communicate scope changes transparently

Additional services must be formally documented before execution.

5. Confidentiality & Data Protection

Mentors must treat all project-related information as confidential, including:

  • Research concepts
  • Manuscripts and drafts
  • Institutional data
  • Strategic discussions

Disclosure of confidential information without authorization is prohibited.

Where required, mentors shall comply with Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).

6. Conflict of Interest Disclosure

Mentors are required to disclose potential conflicts of interest, including:

  • Prior collaborations with the mentee
  • Financial interests related to the project
  • Editorial involvement in target journals
  • Institutional overlaps

MentorsGate may reassign or restructure engagements where conflicts arise.

7. Communication Standards

Mentors shall:

  • Maintain respectful, professional communication
  • Respond within agreed timelines
  • Provide constructive and evidence-based feedback
  • Avoid discriminatory, offensive, or inappropriate conduct

All communications must remain aligned with professional academic standards.

8. Time Commitment & Delivery Standards

Mentors must:

  • Commit to realistic timelines
  • Avoid overcommitment
  • Inform mentees promptly of foreseeable delays
  • Maintain quality consistency across engagements

Failure to meet repeated commitments may lead to performance review.

9. Financial & Compensation Conduct

Mentors shall:

  • Accept compensation only through agreed and documented channels
  • Avoid direct off-platform financial arrangements that bypass governance
  • Comply with applicable tax regulations

Financial transparency is mandatory.

10. Authorship & Publication Ethics

Authorship must:

  • Follow journal and institutional guidelines
  • Reflect genuine intellectual contribution
  • Be mutually agreed and ethically justified

MentorsGate does not mandate authorship and discourages honorary or unethical authorship claims.

11. Participation in IMPARC & IMT Initiatives

Mentors participating in:

  • IMPARC programs
  • Academic panels
  • Research consortium initiatives
  • IMT editorial contributions

must adhere to consortium and editorial governance protocols.

Editorial independence of IMT remains non-negotiable.

12. Prohibited Conduct

The following conduct may result in disciplinary action:

  • Academic misconduct
  • Breach of confidentiality
  • Misrepresentation of credentials
  • Harassment or discriminatory behavior
  • Repeated non-performance
  • Conflict of interest concealment

13. Monitoring & Performance Review

Mentor performance may be reviewed based on:

  • Quality of advisory support
  • Timeliness
  • Professional conduct
  • Feedback from mentees or institutions

MentorsGate reserves the right to conduct internal evaluations where necessary.

14. Disciplinary Measures

In case of policy violation, MentorsGate may:

  • Issue formal warnings
  • Temporarily suspend assignments
  • Terminate mentor association
  • Restrict participation in consortium or editorial initiatives

All actions are subject to administrative review.

15. Acknowledgment & Acceptance

By accepting assignments through MentorsGate, mentors acknowledge that they:

  • Have read and understood this Code of Conduct
  • Agree to uphold academic integrity and governance standards
  • Accept compliance obligations under platform policy

Non-compliance may result in termination of association.
