About shweta
Introduction: An Academician Who Builds Bridges I have spent more than eighteen years in higher education, and if I had to describe my work in a single phrase, it would be this: I build bridges between theory and practice, between students and opportunity, and between an institution's ambitions and the systems that make them real. Today I serve as Dean Academics in the Management Department of the IAMR Group of Institutions, Ghaziabad, a role I took up on 14 October 2022. Before that, I taught, coordinated and led at Mangalmay Institute of Management and Technology in Greater Noida, and before that at R.K. University in Rajkot, where my career began in July 2009. My academic foundation lies in commerce and management. I hold a B.Com, an MBA in Finance with a minor in Human Resources, and a Ph.D. in Human Resources, all from Saurashtra University in Gujarat. That combination matters to me. Finance taught me to respect numbers, evidence and discipline. Human resources taught me that every number in an organisation is ultimately produced by people, and that people respond to trust, clarity and purpose far more than to instructions alone. Much of what I do as a teacher, researcher and administrator sits at the meeting point of those two views. Over the years my work has taken three broad forms. The first is teaching and mentoring: delivering practical, application-based lectures, guiding students through projects and interviews, and helping young people discover that they are capable of more than they believe. The second is academic leadership: reviewing curricula, shaping policies, coordinating committees, and preparing institutions for accreditation by NAAC. The third is scholarship: publishing papers, editing and authoring books, filing patents, reviewing for journals and presenting at conferences, mainly in human resource management, employee branding, finance, corporate social responsibility and, more recently, the effect of artificial intelligence on work. What connects these three strands is a belief that I hold firmly. Education is not the transfer of information; it is the creation of an environment in which students, faculty and institutions can keep growing. I have tried to build such environments in every role I have held, and this document is my attempt to tell that story honestly: where I started, what I learned along the way, what I research and why, and how I mentor the people who study and work alongside me. My ORCID iD is https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6109-3245, and I can be reached at shweta.rkcet@gmail.com. Roots and Education: Learning Commerce in Gujarat My educational journey began in Gujarat, and it followed a steady path through the commerce stream. I completed my Secondary School Certificate with the Gujarat Secondary Education Board in March 2002, scoring 69 percent. Two years later, in March 2004, I finished my Higher Secondary Certificate in Commerce with the Gujarat Higher Secondary Education Board, with 79 percent. That result gave me early confidence in subjects such as accounting, economics and business studies, and it pointed me firmly towards a career in commerce and management. From April 2004 to April 2007 I studied for my Bachelor of Commerce at Saurashtra University, specialising in Finance and finishing with 63 percent. I do not remember my undergraduate years as a period of effortless success. They were a period of learning how to study, how to ask questions and how to sit with difficult material until it made sense. I say this deliberately, because I meet many students today who measure themselves by a single mark. My own record, with its ups and downs, reminds me that marks capture a moment, while growth is a longer story. I then returned to Saurashtra University for my Master of Business Administration between July 2007 and May 2009. I chose Finance as my major and Human Resources as my minor, and I completed the programme with 71 percent. The pairing was deliberate. Finance gave me a rigorous toolkit: financial management, corporate finance, working capital, derivatives and accounting for decision-making. Human Resources gave me a way of understanding the organisation behind the balance sheet, including motivation, retention, talent and culture. Many of the subjects I would later teach, from Financial Management and Corporate Finance to Strategic HRM and Talent Management, came directly from this dual training. My doctoral work followed. I received my Ph.D. in Human Resources from Saurashtra University in May 2012, while already working as a faculty member. Pursuing a doctorate alongside a full teaching load was demanding, but it taught me lessons that I still use: how to frame a research question, how to collect and analyse evidence, how to write for a scholarly audience and how to accept criticism as part of the work. It also taught me something about balance. Research and teaching feed each other, but only if one learns to protect time for both.
